Women Premier League: Lanning-Shafali Powered Delhi Capitals to Score 60 Runs Win Against RCB W
The second match of WPL 2023 was played between DC and RCB women. RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. DC Women’s classy international batters took test of the inexperienced bowlers of RCB. They have now outscored the Mumbai Indians' previous total, which was 200+ in both games. Royals Challengers’ openers, Shafali and Lanning, exposed Bangalore's inexperienced bowling attack. In the second over, they faced up against Schutt, and from that point on, they were unstoppable. The fact that they scored a boundary in every save the first over indicates their domination. A 150+ stand by Shafali and Lanning helped lay the groundwork for a significant score. Taking advantage of that start, Kapp and Jemimah scored 60 runs off the final 31 balls. DC posted 223-2 in 20 overs. In the run chase of 224, Smriti and Devine got RCB off to a fast start, but they were unable to keep up with the constant asking rate of over 11, and Capsey covered for them. Perry maintained the scoreboard's activity, but she was the first victim of RCB's mini-collapse, which saw them lose 5 wickets for 7 runs, with Tara Norris being the main culprit. To keep the margin of defeat manageable, Knight and Schutt added a 50+ stand, the longest of the innings. When Norris returned for her last over, she took out Knight to complete her 5-fer. RCB got only 163-8 in 20 overs and lost the match by 60 runs. Delhi Capitals had won handily with that. It was only a matter of their bowlers maintaining their composure after they had batted Royal Challengers Bangalore out of the game.
