West Indies Failed to Qualify for WC 2023 for the First Time in History

For the first time in the 48-year history of the competition, West Indies, who won the ODI World Cup in 1975 and 1979, wouldn't be among the top 10 teams in white-ball cricket. After a shocking seven-wicket loss to underdogs Scotland in a Super Six match of the ODI World Cup qualifier on Saturday, two-time champions West Indies, for the first time in the history of the 50-over (ODI) World Cup, failed to qualify for the illustrious tournament due to subpar cricket across the board. For the first time in the 48-year history of the competition, the Clive Lloyd-led West Indies, champions of the 1975 and 1979 ODI World Cups, will not be listed among the top 10 teams in white-ball cricket. India will host the ODI World Cup in 2023 beginning on October 5. This was notable since it was Scotland's first triumph over the West Indies. After winning the toss, Scotland asked West Indies to bat first. West Indies were dismissed for 181 runs in 43.5 overs while batting first. In their reply, Scotland lost 3 wickets while chasing the goal and ultimately scored 185 runs in 43.3 overs. Brendon McMullen (69 off 106 balls) and Matt Cross (74 not out off 107 balls) combined 125 runs for the second wicket to secure the victory for Scotland. West Indies' chances of making it to the World Cup qualifying round were always slim because they were reliant on the results of other games. They lost to Netherlands in the pivotal Super Over eliminator match after losing to Zimbabwe, and they entered the Super Six round with no points.
