It’s the opening match of the ICC U19 World T20 Women Cup played between Australia W and Bangladesh W at Willowmoore Park, Benoni. Australia W won the toss and opted to bat first but that came out to be a wrong decision as the team lost both openers Kate Pelle 5 (6) and Paris Bowdler 7 (6) at a score of 22 in 3.3 overs. Claire Moore and Ella Hayward stabilized the Australian Women’s innings by scoring 52 (51) and 35 (39), respectively. To end the inning, Amy Smith and Rhys McKenna played a booster inning, scoring 16 (7) and 12 (6) to put a target of 130/5 for Bangladesh women U19.
Marufa Akter and Disha Biswas took double wickets individually to help Bangladesh W U19 team to restrict Australia W U19 at a below par score.
In the run chase, Misty Shaha and Afia Prottasha opened the batting but Misty got out on the very first ball of the inning without scoring a run. Dilara Akter came to bat next and with Afia, she built a steady pace for the run chase. In 10 overs, the duo helped Bangladesh W to put 60+ runs on the score board. However, Dilara 40 (42) and Afia 24 (22) got departed just after the drinks as they got dismissed by Ainsworth. Shorna Akter and Sumaiya Akter played the much-needed innings for Bangladesh Women and helped their team to chase the target in 18 overs.
Bangladesh W U19 beat Australia W U19 by 7 wickets and started their world cup campaign with a win.
