Top 10 Bowlers Who Never Bowled a Wide Ball in their Career | CBTF News

Cricket, also known as the gentleman's game, is fraught with danger. Even a purist in cricket cannot foretell what would happen next. A simple error, such as bowling a wide or no-ball, picking the incorrect stroke, or making a misfield, can cost the game.

Bowling a no-ball is illegal because it forces the bowler to repeat the same delivery while also awarding the batting team an extra run. A no-ball cannot be used to rule out the batter. In ODIs and T20Is, free hits have been added, which makes the situation even worse.

Similarly, bowling a comprehensive ball results in an extra run for the batting team and forces the bowler to repeat the same delivery.

In contemporary cricket, it's common to see bowlers throw wide or no balls. However, there have also been those bowlers with perfect control throughout the history of cricket. Here, we examine eleven illustrious perfectionists who have never thrown a wide ball in their professional careers.

Best Bowlers with No Wide Ball – Top 10 Bowlers

Sir Richard Hadlee – The best fast bowler from

New Zealand to ever play cricket, and no one else has been able to equal his level since at least not without ever bowling a wide ball in their careers. Richard Hadlee participated in a combined 201 international games (86 Test matches, 115 ODI matches) without ever bowling a wide ball. No bowler today possesses that degree of self-control.

Sir Garfield Sobers – The second player on this list, who played in 93 Test Matches during his career and a few ODIs, is also one of cricket's all-time greats. He bowled 20660 deliveries in those Test Matches, with not a single wide ball. He was genuinely Mr. Everything, capable of doing it all, and no

West Indies bowler would never surpass his feats.

Sir Lan Botham – The third player on our list is also an all-time great from

England, and we can see that only the greatest players of all time have been featured on this list thus far. Sir Ian Botham played 100 matches for England in both game formats, including 102 Test Matches and 116 ODI Matches. In these 218 Matches, he did not bowl a wide ball, which is an incredible accomplishment and demonstrates that a bowler can pick lots of wickets if disciplined.

Clarrie Grimmett – He is the first player on this list who perhaps not many cricket fans have heard of, but fear not. I will introduce him to our readers because he is also a bowler who never once bowled a wide ball in his career. He was born in New Zealand, but after playing some domestic cricket, he represented Australia in international cricket. He bowled 14453 balls throughout his 37 matches career with no wide ball.

Lance Gibbs – Lance Gibbs, another legendary bowler in cricket history, made this list because he was a vital member of the West Indies team that dominated the 1970s. Gibbs played 79 ODIs in his career, equating to almost 1000 overs because those games were 60 overs each, and he avoided bowling a single wide ball throughout his career.

Bob Willis – Given that Bob Willis, another all-time great, is mentioned on this list and that he played more than 170 international matches for England over 13 years without throwing a single wide delivery, it appears that the former English bowlers were among the most disciplined bowlers. He bowled hundreds of balls during his 90 Test matches and 80 ODI appearances, and not a single wide delivery was delivered.

Imran Khan – The ninth person on this list is the finest player in Pakistani cricket history and one of the few bowlers never to have thrown a wide or no-ball. Imran Khan represented

Pakistan in 175 ODI and 88 Test matches during his cricket career, and the startling reality is that he never bowled a wide ball. Young bowlers will pick up a lot from him.

Fred Trueman – The last and final name on our list is another outstanding English bowler who played 603 domestic games and 67 international matches without ever bowling a wide ball.
