England and Australia squared off in the 4th Test match of the Ashes at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. England won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Warner and Khawaja came to bat and Broad opened the bowling attack. Warner started the over and inning with a four on the first ball of the match. In the 5th over, Khawaja got out after scoring 3(19) on the last ball. In the 13th over, Australia reached 50 runs. In the 14th over, Labuschagne hit a four on the fourth ball and finished the over with a four. In the 15th over, Warner got out after scoring 32(38) on the first ball and Smith started his innings with a four on the next ball. After 20 overs, Australia was at 81-2.
In the 23rd over, Smith smashed a six on the fifth ball. In the 24th over, Smith hit a four on the last ball and Australia reached 100 runs. After the end of 1st session, Australia was at 107-2. In the 30th over, Smith started the over with a four and got out after scoring 41(52) on the second ball. In the 34th over, Head smashed two fours. After 40 overs, Australia was at 148-3.
In the 41st over, Head started the over with back-to-back two fours. In the 46th over, Labuschagne hit a four on the second ball, scored a half-century on the fifth ball and Head finished the over with a four. In the 47th over, Labuschagne got out after scoring 51(115) on the first ball. After the end of session 2, Australia was at 187-4. In the 50th over, Head got out after scoring 48(65) on the fifth ball and it was the 600th Test wicket for Stuart Broad. In the 52nd over, Mitchell Marsh hit a four on the fourth ball and Australia reached 200 runs. In the 57th over, Mitchell Marsh started the over with back-to-back two fours. After 60 overs, Australia was at 241-5
In the 62nd over, Mitchell Marsh smashed a four and scored a half-century. In the 63th over, Green got out after scoring 16(29) on the first ball and Mitchell Marsh got out after scoring 51(60) on the fifth ball. In the 68th over, Starc smashed back-to-back two fours. In the 81st over, Carey got out after scoring 20(49) on the fourth ball.
At the end of day 1, Australia was at 299-8, and Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were playing at 23(70) and 1(3).
