Super Smash 2022-23: Otago Defeated Canterbury by 4 Wickets

At Hagley Oval, Christchurch, the squads, Canterbury and Otago came against each other for the 28th match of Super Smash. 

 

With both the captains on the pitch, Otago won the toss and opted to field first. To unveil the batting attack, Bowes and McClure came to the middle on the opening bowling of Travis Muller. In the first over only, Bowes crunched two back-to-back boundaries and lost his wicket. After 3 overs, CNTBRY got a score of 19-2. 

 

Scoring 15 off 11, McConchie got a dismissal from Michael Rae and the right-handed batter, Cam Fletcher took the batting charge. After 6 overs, their score shifted to 36-3. 

 

After 8 overs, CNTBRY reached the score of half-century, standing at 50-3. Fueling 11 off 176 balls, Fletcher lost his wicket to Lockrose. Adding 44 runs in 37 balls for the side, McClure lost his wicket to Rae in the 15th over, the side crossed the century with a score of 109-5. 

 

In 20 overs, CNTBRY posted 156 runs on the scoreboard with a loss of 8 wickets. 

 

To chase down the target of 157, Rutherford and Jake Gibson opened the batting attack on the opening bowling of Foulkes. In the first over only, Rutherford smashed three back-to-back boundaries. After 3 overs, OTG got a score of 36.

 

Scoring 21 off 12 balls, Rutherford lost his wicket to Astle and the right-handed batter, Dean Foxcroft came to the crease. After 6 overs only, Foxcroft lost his wicket to McKenzie and the side crossed the half-century, standing at a score of 51-2. 

 

After 10 overs, OTG jumped to a score of 79-2 and the side crossed the century after 15 overs, standing at a score of 116-3. In the 19th over, Finnie crunched two huge sixes. Drilling a huge score of 96 in 63 balls, Gibson lost his wicket to McKenzie. 

 

In 19.3 overs, OTG scored 161 runs with a loss of 6 wickets and won the match by 4 wickets.
