Super Smash 2022-23: Canterbury Lost the Match to Auckland by 4 Wickets

 match of the Super Smash league wherein Canterbury and Auckland came face to face. The toss favoured Auckland who later chose to field first and invited Canterbury to bat. Bowes and Matthew Boyle came to open the batting attack while Ferguson was handed over the first over. Canterbury had a sloppy start as they were at 36-0 in 4 overs. However, the openers cleared their intent in the remaining two overs of the powerplay, putting 67-0 on the scoreboard. Boyle got run out at 30 (19) while stealing doubles. 

 

 

 

In the 10th over, Bowes reached his 50-run stand and lost his wicket to Aditya Ashok. In the immediate over, CAN crossed the century, standing at a score of 101-3. After 17 overs, the team jumped to a score of 134-7. 

 

In 20 overs, CAN posted 147 runs with a loss of 9 wickets. 

 

For the run chase of 148, Worker and Max ODowd came to the crease on the throw from Shipley. In the first ball only, Max ODowd lost his wicket. Shipley took another wicket of Chapman in the 3rd over who bought the first four for the side. After 3 overs, AKL got a score of 9-2. 

 

Worker got a dismissal after scoring 12 in 15 balls. Fueling 16 runs in 18 balls, Briggs lost his wicket and the left-handed batter, Sean Solia came to the middle. 

 

In the 12th over, Boyle slammed three sixes and crossed the half-century with a score of 72-4. With the great partnership of Ben Horne and Sean Solia, AKL crossed the century, standing at a score of 102-5. 

 

In the 19th over, Horne reached his 50-run stand and in 19.3 overs, AKL scored 149 with a loss of 6 wickets, winning the match against CAN by 4 wickets.
