Sri Lanka and Pakistan squared off in the 2nd Test match at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first.
Nishan Madushka and Karunaratne came to bat and Shaheen Afridi opened the bowling attack. Sri Lanka didnt have a great start and lost the wicket very early. Nishan Madushka got out in the third over after scoring 4(9). Sri Lankan batters struggled to score runs and 7 batters couldnt touch the double digit. Sri got all out at 166 runs in the first innings. Dhananjaya de Silva was top scorer with 57 runs, followed by Chandimal with 34 runs, and R Mendis with 27 runs. Abrar Ahmed was the highest wicket taker with 4 wickets, followed by Naseem Shah with 3 wickets and Shaheen Afridi with one wicket.
Pakistani opener Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq came to bat and Imam got out very early. However, Masood and Shafique ensured that Pakistan would have a great start and made a partnership of 108 runs for the second wicket. Masood got out after scoring a half-century. Pakistan declared their inning at 576-5. Shafique was the highest run-scorer with 201 runs, followed by Agha Salman with 132 runs, Saud Shakeel with 57 runs, Masood with 51 runs, and Rizwan with 50* runs. Asitha Fernando was the highest wicket-taker with 3 wickets slowed by Prabath Jayasuriya who took two. Pakistan took a mammoth lead of 410 runs.
Sri Lanka came to bat in the second innings against a mammoth score and this time their opener gave them a great start. They couldn't capitalize the good start into the great one. After these wickets, Sri Lnakan couldnt face the Pakistani bowlers and Sri Lanka got all out at 188 and lost the match by an innings and 22 runs. Angelo Mathews was the highest run-scorer and only to score half-century in the Sri Lankan batting line-up. Dimuth Karunaratne followed him with 41 runs and Nishan Madushka with 33 runs.
