SA vs Aus, ODI Series 2023: SA Clinched the Series 3-2 After Beating Australia by 122 Runs in the Decider Match

The 5th match of Aus vs SA ODI series was played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. Australia won the toss and they opted to bowl first. De Kock, playing his final ODI at home, stayed in the game early on a slightly two-paced sticky surface, but both he and Rassie van der Dussen failed to capitalize on their starts, falling for 27 and 30, respectively. Aiden Markram and David Miller began to revive the batting as the pitch started to lose its stickiness in the scorching heat. They added 109 runs for the fifth wicket. But by the 45th over, both were out. Jansen and Phelukwayo were subsequently placed in charge of making sure the effective platform wasn't wasted.

The former scored a 23-ball 47, while the latter scored a 39-ball undefeated total. How important may these runs from Phehlukwayo and Jansen turn out to be? They made the difference between a 270 score and a final total of 315, turning the momentum to the hosts in that last over, which cost them 24 runs. In the run chase, Warner and Marsh got off to a strong start, but Jansen abruptly shifted the momentum by dismissing both Warner and Inglis with a double-wicket maiden. Together, Marsh and Labuschagne kept the scoreboard updated.

Australia appeared to be putting the hosts on the back foot as Marsh passed the fifty-mark and appeared dangerous. However, Jansen once more defeated the big fish before completing the over with another double-wicket delivery, sending Labuschagne and Carey back to the hut and claiming a 5-fer. It then moved on to the Maharaj show. He quickly dispatched the Australian lower middle order and tail by bowling in probing channels. Ultimately, the tourists were dismissed for 193, giving the Proteas a commanding 122-run victory. South Africa had a fantastic victory in the championship match, coming from behind to win the series 3-2.

South Africa was in some trouble at 103/4 after losing the toss and being put in to bat, but fifty-plus scores from Markram and Miller, as well as a pair of scorching cameos from Jansen and Phehlukwayo in the final few overs, helped the hosts surpass the 300-run threshold on a two-paced surface.
