Qatar Vs Senegal, FIFA World Cup 2022: World Cup Hosts Eliminated after Defeat with 1-3

Qatar has been eliminated from the World Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Senegal at Al Thumama Stadium.

 

 Qatar is rooted to the bottom of Group A with one game remaining and became the competition's first team to be eliminated after the Netherlands avoided defeat against Ecuador later on Friday.

 

 Senegal took control with goals from Boulaye Dia (41) and Famara Diedhiou (48) on either side of halftime to reply to their opening-night loss to the Netherlands.

 

 With a historic first goal at a World Cup championships for Qatar, Mohammed Muntari pulled one back (78). Still, the hosts' unexpected comeback lasted only six minutes as Ahmadou Dieng restored Senegal's two-goal lead (84).

 

 The third goal effectively ended the game for the African team, which currently has three points from two games and is still in contention for the next round.
