Most successful captains in West Indies cricket history | CBTF News

West Indies are one of those monsters whose dominance is well known. The Caribbean team was the first team to win the first-ever world cup, and again they continued doing so and won the second edition of the world cup. The West Indian dominance ended when they lost the final against

India in 1983. Unfortunately, West Indies never won the world cup after 1979.

Captaining the West Indies is difficult compared to other countries because it is not a country, and is a board that consists of multiple countries - Guyana, TnT, Barbados, etc. Players are part of a team with different cultures and baggage. Managing a team with different languages and cultures might be

 If we see the

international cricket council news, they have won the

T20 world cup

two times and are one of the most successful teams. In the last decade, West Indies cricket has struggled, and they don’t even qualify for super-12 in 2021 and 2022. There are multiple factors behind it, but people enjoy the Caribbean flavor in a different league.

Clive Lloyd

Arguably, the best captain cricket has ever seen, and he is one of the great captains of the West Indies. He is an in-generation type player who has inspired the entire generation of cricketers. The stats of Clive Lloyd are also much better because he had the best side, and no captain has ever got the team he has. He led the West Indies in the 74

test

matches and 84 ODI matches and won the 36 test and 64 ODI matches. West Indies has won the

world cup twice, and he was the captain of the team both times. Winning 100 matches speaks about him itself.

Viv Richards

The next on the list is the greatest batsman ever and the most stylish captain, Viv Richards. Many people also say that he is the greatest player that cricket has ever seen. When we think of Viv Richards, one thing comes to mind: swag. Playing with a high strike was such a rare sight in the 70s and 80s and he was doing it all day and night. According to

international cricket news, he never wore a helmet still, his presence on the field was more than enough to threaten the bowler. When Viv Richards took over the captaincy, there were a lot of big names playing in the team, and he worked as a glue who held the team together. He led the team in 50 tests and 105 ODI matches and won 27 tests and 67 ODI matches.

Brain Lara

Next on the list is the greatest batter, leader, and much more than this. He is the modern-day batting legend who has shown class to the world. According to

international sports news, cricket has seen few players like him and is on the list with players like Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting. He will be known for his leadership along with his batting record and his

400 runs in tests is impossible to break

. He is the third-best West Indian captain who has won 69 matches for their team. Brain Lara has seen lots of ups and downs in his captaincy career, but the

ICC champions trophy

in 2004 is the highlight of his career, where he won the trophy for his team. He ended on a high note as West Indies reached the super 8 round in the 2007 world cup. He led in 47 test and 125 ODI matches and won 10 tests and 59 ODIs.

Darren Sammy

Darren Sammy might not be skilled or successful like other players on the list, but he is the captain of the

most successful T20 team

. West Indies has won the

T20 world cup

two times in his career. Many people have raised questions about his captaincy abilities, but Sammy kept aside all the criticism and responded with the title. West Indies won the first T20 world cup in 2012 and the second in 2016 under his leadership. He is the first cricketer from St. Lucia to get a chance to play for the West Indies. He was a good handy bowler who bowls medium pace and a batter who can contribute in the lower order.

Jason Holder

He is tall and

one of the best all-rounders

who is equally good with bats and ball. Jason Holder has chosen to lead the West Indies side when the board was struggling. He got his maiden call against Australia in an ODI in

Australia. He led the team in 37 tests and 86 ODI matches and won 11 tests and 24 ODI matches.
