Lanka Premier League: Jaffna Kings Defeated Colombo Stars by 2 Wickets in the Final It’s the much-awaited match of the Lanka Premier League and with this, this edition of the Lanka Premier League comes to end. The final match was played between Jaffna Kings and Colombo Stars. Jaffna Kings won the toss and they invited CLS to bat first. Madushka and Chandimal came to bat first and Perera opened the attack for CLS. Madushka left in the first over, but Chandimal and Asalanka made sure Colombo got off to a solid start. They built a stand of more than 50 runs, but they were unable to turn their starts into a significant score. After 9 overs, the score was 74-1 but, in the 10th, over, Asalanka was dismissed by Wellalge. Bopara stayed put and picked up speed at the end to push the total above 160 after Jaffna's spinners brought it back in the middle overs. There is something for the spinners, and the slower balls are gripping the surface. However, once the stage was set, the batters were also able to score easily, which adds intrigue to the pursuit. The score was 163-5 which is not too high for Jaffna Kings. In the run chase, Gurbaz and Fernando opened the batting attach while Rajitha bowled the opening over. Gurbaz had set the pace for Jaffna Kings by scoring 36 (18) before departing to the pavilion in the 5th over. In the Powerplay, JKS scored 52-1 and things were going right for them except the dismissal of Gurbaz. Soon, Afif got caught at 3 (10) as he succumbed to the slower form, he was in. After 10 overs, the score was 84-2. In the 15th over, Samarawickrama got dismissed at 44 (27) who was a major threat for CLS. However, JKS had gained a control over the match. What is a final without some drama? Jaffna Kings made the game much more intense than it should have been. In the end, they maintained their composure and received a couple breaks from some careless bowling to cross the finish line with four balls to spare. Jaffna made a good decision to field first and did well to score in their first over. Jaffna Kings won the final by 2 wickets. These two would have won the game for their team on any other day, but Jaffna did some foolish things in the heat of the final, going from 128/2 to 154/7. Lakmal's three runs towards the end gave Colombo hope that they could rally, but eventually the margin between balls and runs was too narrow for them to pull off a late shock. Rajitha's final over wasn't very strong, which helped Jaffna, who ultimately crossed the finish line with four balls to spare, to win their third straight title!
