IPL To Return To Original Home-Away Format From 2023 Season: Sourav Ganguly

According to the latest cricket news in the Times of India, the Indian Premier League will return to its original, pre-COVID-19, home-and-away format starting with the 2023 season, confirmed by BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. Since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, only a small number of stadiums have hosted IPL matches. Instead, three stadiums in the United Arab Emirates—Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi—saw the lucrative league played out behind closed doors. 

 

Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Chennai were the four venues where the tournament was conducted in 2021. After the pandemic has been contained, the cash-rich league will return to its old format, where each team plays one home game and one away game. “The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” read a Ganguly’s note to state units. The BCCI is operating a full-fledged domestic season for the first time since 2020, and all multi-day events will also return to the traditional home and away schedule. 

 

In 2023, the BCCI Hopes to Host the Women's IPL According to the BCCI, the eagerly awaited Women's IPL will make its debut in early 2023. The competition is slated to take place in March following the South Africa Women's T20 World Cup, according to a report from PTI from last month. “The BCCI is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year,” Ganguly wrote in the letter dated September 20. The Women's IPL is expected to advance women's cricket in India. In addition to the Women's IPL, the BCCI is launching an ODI tournament for females under the age of 15. 

 

“We are glad to introduce a girls U15 One Day tournament from this season. Women’s cricket has seen phenomenal growth across the world, and our national team has been performing well. This new tournament will create a pathway for our young girls to play at the national and international level,” Ganguly wrote. From December 26 to January 12, the first-ever women's under-15 competition will be held in six cities, including Bangalore, Ranchi, Rajkot, Indore, Raipur, and Pune.
