Exciting Contest Brewing for India Women's Cricket Coach Role

In the race for the coveted position of India women's cricket coach, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has shortlisted three top contenders who are all set to battle it out for the role.

The dynamic trio includes the current head coach of England women's cricket team, Jon Lewis, the experienced Indian cricketer and coach, Amol Muzumdar, and the former coach of the India women's team, Tushar Arothe. The CAC, comprising Sulakshana Naik, Jatin Paranjpe, and Ashok Malhotra, will conduct interviews with the candidates on June 30. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen on finalizing the appointment before the India women's team embarks on their Bangladesh tour in July, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Jon Lewis, at 47 years old, brings a wealth of experience to the table. As a former County player, Lewis has already made his mark in the women's cricket arena, serving as the coach of UP Warriorz in the Women's Premier League (WPL) earlier this year. His tactical acumen and expertise are expected to be major assets in the coaching role.

Meanwhile, Tushar Arothe, 56, boasts two previous stints as the head coach of the India women's team. His familiarity with the squad and understanding of the team dynamics make him a strong contender. Arothe also had a successful run as the batting coach of the Gujarat Giants in the WPL, further showcasing his coaching prowess.

Amol Muzumdar, 48, brings a different flavor to the mix. Known for his prolific run-getting abilities during his playing days for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, Muzumdar has a keen eye for talent development. His recent achievement of guiding Mumbai to the Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 title demonstrates his ability to lead a team to success.

The upcoming Bangladesh tour, featuring three Women's ODIs and Women's T20Is, will provide an immediate challenge for the new coach. Moreover, with the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ODI World Cup on the horizon, the selected coach will play a vital role in shaping the future of the Indian women's team.

The stage is set for an exhilarating battle as Lewis, Muzumdar, and Arothe vie for the prestigious role of India women's cricket coach. With the CAC's decision drawing near, all eyes are on who will ultimately be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team to greater heights in the coming years.

Cricketer Quits Baroda Team for Better Opportunities in Goa

Tarannum Pathan, a talented all-rounder and record-setter, has made a bold move by leaving the Baroda cricket team and joining the Goa cricket team for the upcoming season. The 29-year-old cricketer had recently received recognition from the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) for her outstanding achievements, becoming the first woman cricketer from the city to claim 100 wickets in BCCI matches and the first woman cricketer from Gujarat to achieve 200 wickets across different cricket formats. However, Pathan felt undervalued and ignored by the team management, leading her to seek better opportunities elsewhere.

Expressing her dissatisfaction, Pathan stated, "I was being constantly ignored and not given the necessary support to advance my career. I felt a lack of respect. So, I decided to quit the Baroda team and explore a better opportunity." Having been a part of the BCA for 15 years, Pathan's departure is part of a concerning trend, as nine senior women cricketers have left the association in the past two years for various reasons.

Rajkuvardevi Gaekwad, former chief selector of Baroda senior women's cricket, revealed that BCA secretary Ajit Lele had approached her to discuss Pathan's concerns about the lack of opportunities and support from the team management.

Gaekwad also highlighted that Pathan is not alone in her decision to leave the Baroda team. In the past two years, a total of nine women players, including Palak Patel, Rutvisha Patel, Binaisha Surti, Jenita Fernandes, Himani Tyagi, Tanishka Choksi, Charmi Shah, and Richa Patel, have departed from the association. Gaekwad emphasized the importance of the BCA taking necessary steps to retain and nurture talent.

Ajit Lele, the BCA secretary, acknowledged that Pathan had cited a better opportunity as her reason for switching associations. Lele also mentioned that some players had left due to disciplinary actions taken against them, but he admitted having limited knowledge regarding the reasons behind the departures of other women players.

The exodus of talented women cricketers from the Baroda team highlights the need for the association to address the concerns raised by the players and create an environment that fosters talent and supports the growth of women's cricket.

Indian Women's Team Set for Action-Packed Tour in Dhaka

The Indian women's cricket team is gearing up for an exciting tour of Bangladesh, where they will play all six matches at the iconic Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The tour includes three T20Is scheduled for July 9, 11, and 13, followed by three ODIs on July 16, 19, and 22.

This highly anticipated tour marks the first appearance of the Indian women's team since their heart-wrenching exit from the ICC Women's World Cup in Cape Town earlier this year. The team has undergone a rigorous high-performance camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to prepare for the upcoming challenges.

While the search for a new head coach is still ongoing, former Indian all-rounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar, the team's batting coach, is expected to take charge of the side for the Bangladesh tour. The players are eager to showcase their skills and make a strong comeback on the international stage.

All eyes will be on the Indian women's team as they look to leave a lasting impact in Dhaka and set the tone for future successes. Fans are eagerly awaiting thrilling performances from their favorite players, and the tour promises to be a memorable one for both teams involved.
