The long wait of fans is over and the BCCI released the 15-member squad for the World Cup 2023. Men in Blue are busy in Asia Cup 2023 and make it to the super four. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee revealed the 15-member squad on 5 September 2023 after meeting with Indian coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are starting the inning for India and most probably, they will do the same in the World Cup. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and KL Rahul have been named to play in the middle order. Virat Kohli will play at number three but at number four there will be a contest between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav. At number five, Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul will bat and take care of wicket-keeping responsibility. Moreover, Ishan is the only left-handed batter in the top-order and is in good touch. So, he can get the chance in the playing XI first. He has smashed back-to-back four half-century in his last four matches.
Once again, there is no place for Sanju Samson in the middle order and his bad form in the last few occasions is the main reason. Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel will take care of allround responsibilities. But, Axar Patel may face difficulties in making the place in the playing XI in the presence of Ravindra Jadeja. There is no place for Chahal and Ashwin and it can be questioned by the selection-committee. They are in good touch and have been a part of the Indian team regularly. Furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav will strengthen the team in the middle order and his ability to take wickets in the middle order will be beneficial for team India.
Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur are the three fast-bowlers in the 15-member squad. Bhuvneshawr Kumar was not in the Asia squad and it was confirmed that he will not be part of the World Cup squad.
