India Women Go 1-1 Against Australia Women With the Super Over Win

The second T20I match of India W Vs. Australia W was held on 11 Dec 2022 at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.

Indian Women won the toss and invited Australia to bat first. The first inning of the match started with Healy and Mooney at the crease, and Renuka Singh opened the attack. Deepti Singh took the first wicket of Healy in the 4th over with a short ball. The powerful great batting of McGartha and Mooney took Australia to 46 runs with a loss of 1 wicket during the powerplay. After some boundaries coming from the bat of McGarth, Australia reached 80 runs in 10 overs.

In 14.4 overs, McGarth hit the first six of the first inning and crossed her half-century, and with this, Australia reached 134 runs in 15 overs. Mooney also crossed 50 in the 16th over in 38 balls. As the duo toyed with the fields and took calculated risks, they established a record 158-run partnership. As the ball turned, the Aussie countercharge arrested any Indian control. Australia put 187/1 after 20 overs. 188 will be a daunting target for the hosts, but they have the firepower to get there.

The second inning started with Mandhana and Shafali, and Gardner opened the attack. Madhana hit the first four of the second inning in the 4th ball of the first over. Madhana and Shafali got into trouble during the powerplay but overcame it and hit 55 runs after 6 overs.

Alana King dismissed Shafali in the 9th over with clever bowling skill, and Shafali was gone after 34(23). Rodrigues was also gone after just scoring 4(4) in the 10th over, and India reached 81 runs with the loss of 2 wickets after 10 overs. In 12.6 over, Mandhan hit six in a tremendous style and crossed her 50.

Harmanpreet and Mandhana settled on the crease and, with their excellent batting skills, took India to 133 runs after 15 overs. India faced some trouble when Harmanpreet caught out in 15.5 overs, and Mandhana was also dismissed at 16.3 overs, which turned out in the biggest wicket for the Aussies.

However, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Vaidya turned the game into a roller coaster hit 18 runs in 12 balls after 18 overs were completed. Richa Ghosh then rose to the occasion, showing her brute power. She got India to the cusp of victory from an improbable position. And not to forget Vaidya, whose last-ball four dragged this game into Super Over territory as India reached 187 runs with a loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. The match was tied and then came the super over.

Both teams played super over. Mandhana hit sharp boundaries with four and six and finished the super over with 20 runs with a loss of 1 wicket of Ghosh. Ghosh, too chipped in with a six to make the total extremely daunting.

McGrath and Gardner tried to chase the run score, but Indian fielders were in their form and allowed Australia to score only 17 runs. Indian Women won the super over with their great batting and fielding skills. Despite their excellent team, 21 was a bridge too far for the World Champions.
