The India tour of Zimbabwe is all set to commence from August 18 to August 22, 2022, in the One Day International (ODI) format. Both the arch-rivals India and Zimbabwe will be battling against each other on the pitch from tomorrow. Reportedly, their first face-off of the series will be hosted at Harare Sports Club at 12:45 pm IST. 

Following the first match, both teams will lead the series on the 20th and 22nd of August respectively. In the recent ODI series, India defended their win against England and West Indies by 2-1 & 3-0 respectively. 

In the list of champions, Zimbabwe also came out as the winning team, defeating Bangladesh by 2-1 in ODIs and T20Is. In the past years, Zimbabwe had less recognition the way it has got in recent years. Winning the regional T20 qualifiers to enter into the T20I World Cup 2022, they knocked out the Bangladesh team in both the ODI & T20I series. 

In the upcoming cricket matches, Zimbabwe has a chance to showcase their talent against the giants of the cricket world. For the series, the Zimbabwe squad are eager to test the young talent on the pitch while the senior players resting out of workload management. Under the captaincy of Regis Chakabva, Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Tadiwanashe Marumani can inaugurate the batting line-up.

• Sikandar Raza, Innocent Kaia, Regis Chakabva, Ryan Burl, and Wesley Madhevere will streamline their middle order entry as a lethal combination. Recently, Wesley and Ryan had hit big scores that would be a bonus advantage for the team.

• Zimbabwe is ready to let the pace bowlers’ trio including Luke Jongwe, Donald Tiripano, and Richard Ngarava kick off the match with the likes of Victor Nyachi and Brad Evans favouring them.

• Sikandar Raza would lead the spin attack representing the team’s potential while Wesley Madhevere and Ryan Burl would accompany him for the spin attack.

• After recuperating from the hamstring injury, KL Rahul is returning to the cricket ground to lead team India. The star cricketer and experienced campaigner, Shikhar Dhawan will serve as the vice-captain and partner him to come in the top order.

• In the middle order, Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, and Shubham Gill have a good forte. Moreover, an efficient all-rounder, Axar Patel is expected to join them in the lower order.

• The combination of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Deepak Chahar is the first choice of the pacers in the match with Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan as the standby players to back the team.

• For spin throws, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have owned the department.

• On Tuesday, the All-India Senior Selection Committee brought up the name of Shahbaz Ahmed to replace Washington Sundar, releasing a statement:

‘Washington Sundar injured his shoulder while playing a County game in England. He has been ruled out of the Zimbabwe tour. India will play the first ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on August 18, 2022.’ 

• Washington Sundar got injured and welcomed spin all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed for the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. Spectators are not eyeing only KL Rahul but also Deepak Chahar as he is returning after recovery from an injury.

• For skipper KL Rahul to come in the top order, Shubham Gill can drop down his order but he would be consistent to strive for his best performance as he earned the ‘Man of the Series’ title against West Indies.

• India can turn the tables in their favour as they have been dominant against Zimbabwe in the ODI series.
