On Thursday, 18/August/2022, India thrashed Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series in Harare. Shubman Gill (82 not out off 72 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (81 not out off 113 balls) put up an unbroken partnership of 192 runs to help India reach their goal of 190 in 30.5 overs. Both hitters reached their individual fifties, giving India a 1-0 series lead.
In the first ODI, which took place in Harare, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar claimed three wickets as India knocked out Zimbabwe for 189 in 40.3 overs.
Axar recorded three for 24 (3/24), and Chahar, who had been away for a time, had a triumphant return with a figure of three for 27 (3/27).
The African batting order was effectively destroyed by Chahar (3/24) and Prasidh Krishna (3/50).
For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans and Richard Ngarava scored 34 and 33 runs, respectively, and captain Regis Chakabva scored the highest with 35 runs.
Dhawan hit three boundaries in the powerplay overs, adding a fourth off Sean Williams in the thirteenth over. Unexpectedly, Gill had not yet scored a single boundary. In the 14th over, he defeated Brad Evans by hitting three fours.
In the partnership of 192 runs, Gill finished with 10 fours and a single six against Wesley Madhevere, and Dhawan smashed 10 boundaries in a cool-headed inning.
India won the ODI match by 10 wickets and recorded a second-highest opening stand by Gill and Dhawan.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly also hold the
cricket record with 197 runs against Zimbabwe in Sharjah in 1998.
According to the
latest cricket news, the second ODI between India and Zimbabwe will take place on Saturday (August 20) at the same venue.
