In the 2nd ODI of Ind vs NZ series, the Men in Blue squared off the Blackcaps. Rohit won the toss and opted to bowl first. Today, the Indian bowlers had their day. Right from Shami to Thakur, Hardik, and Kuldeep everyone contributed their skills and efforts and bowled out the host at their 3rd lowest score in ODIs i.e., 108.
Utilizing the ideal bowling conditions available, the Indian new ball bowlers ran riot on a wicket with a good amount of grass cover. The most destructive player was Mohammad Shami, who claimed three wickets. Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya each claimed two wickets. Siraj, Kuldeep, and Shardul each claimed one wicket.
In the run chase, Rohit and Gill handed gave a stable start to India. Rohit got his half century in today’s match but Shipley dismissed him at 51 (50). Kohli joined Gill at the crease but got stumped soon and couldn’t help India to chase the meagre score. At the end, Ishan Kishan and Gill handed over the win to the team and helped their side to have 2-0 lead in the series.
India won the match by 8 wickets. One of India's most clinical ODI victories in recent memory. The openers for India quickly dismantled the score of 109, which was never going to be enough to even compete. Particularly Rohit seemed upbeat as he played an eye-catching fifty to amuse the audience. Gill 40* (53) batted through to the end with a lot of composure, but he was a little restrained today. Of course, he also played some fantastic strokes, continuing his stellar run of form with the bat. Since they lacked the necessary runs to play with, NZ's bowlers can't really be criticised. Their sole chance of success was to use the new ball to score quickly, but that didn't happen. The Indian batters smoothly completed the formalities.
