In 2023, the Indian team emerged as the first champions, impacting the competition. India is again anticipated to excel as the defending champions, but they will encounter intense competition from some of the most potent cricketing nations. Teams such as England, Australia, and New Zealand are poised to pursue the title, setting the scene for an exciting showdown. Here's all you need to know about the tournament: live streaming options, the complete schedule, the teams, venues, and the format.

Tournament Overview: What to Expect in the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2025

There is a tangible excitement as the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup enters its second edition. The league, including 16 teams and 16 days of non-stop action, will provide cricket fans with a thrilling blend of aggressive fielding, power-hitting, and cunning spin bowling. The competition will be held in four breathtaking locations throughout Malaysia, allowing athletes to show their abilities to a global audience. The 16 teams are split into four groups for this edition, just like in the last. After several group-stage matches, the competition progressed to the Super 6 and knockout stages, with the grand championship on February 2, 2025.

The Groups and Teams: The Big Matchups

The tournament will be divided into four groups, each with four teams. The top three teams from every group will progress to the Super 6 phase, where they will compete for a chance to reach the semi-finals. Below is the breakdown of ICC Women's World Cup teams in the four groups:

  • Group A: India, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Malaysia
  • Group B: England, Pakistan, USA, Ireland
  • Group C: New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria, Samoa
  • Group D: Australia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Scotland

As always, gaining momentum early in the group stages will be crucial for success in this competition. Teams like India, which boasts a strong lineup of talented players, are anticipated to set a high standard. Nevertheless, as the competition becomes increasingly challenging each year, every team has a viable opportunity to achieve significant success. From Australia's dynamic top-order batters to Pakistan's skilled bowlers, fans can expect fierce rivalries and surprising upsets.

Venues: A Glimpse into the Host Locations

This year's tournament is set to take place at four cricket venues throughout Malaysia, selected for their capacity to offer an excellent environment for high-quality cricket. Here's a detailed look at where the matches will occur:

  • Pandamaran's Bayuemas Oval will host Group A matches, the Super 6, and the final rounds. The stadium, with 3,000 spectators, provides an ideal backdrop for the tournament's conclusion.

  • The Johor Cricket Academy Oval will host Group B matches, which are expected to feature some thrilling contests.

  • The UKM-YSD Cricket Oval in Bangi will host Group C matches. It is recognized for its reliable pitch and competitive spirit.

  • Group D matches will occur at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak, allowing fans from the region to experience elite-level cricket.

Each venue will accommodate the group-stage games, the Super 6, and the playoff rounds, culminating in the eagerly awaited final stages at Pandamaran.

Key Players to Watch: Who Will Stand Out?

Even while each squad has a different blend of quality, some players are already making a big impression. A few players to watch are as follows:

  • India's G Kamalini: The 16-year-old southpaw has already established herself and will be an essential member of India's team as they look to win the championship for the second time in a row.

  • Australia's Maggie Clark: Clark, who returned from the 2023 tournament as the top wicket-taker, will be an essential member of Australia's team and provide her expertise.

  • South Africa's Karabo Meso: Meso, well-known for being reliable behind the wickets, will be crucial to South Africa's success in the forthcoming competition.

The Format: How It All Works?

There is maximum competition because of the tournament's well-organized format. This is how it operates:

  • Group Stage: Four groups of four teams each are formed from the 16 teams. There will be three group-stage games for each side. The fourth-place teams will compete for the 13th–16th berths, while the top three teams from each group will move on to the Super 6.

  • Super 6: Two groups of six are formed from the 12 teams who advance to this stage. The points teams earned from their group stage games against other Super 6 clubs will be carried over. After that, they will play against teams they haven't previously encountered. Each group's top two teams advance to the semi-finals.

  • Semi-Finals and Final: The top teams will compete for a spot in the final in the semi-finals, which will mark the end of the tournament. The ultimate champion will be crowned at the grand finale on February 2, 2025, at Pandamaran's Bayuemas Oval.
