ICC is the international governing body for cricket and is responsible for administering all the events of ICC. It presides over the code of conduct established by ICC and also appoints all match officials. ICC test ranking is one of the systems developed by them to recognize the most capable team in the arena of test matches.
In this particular blog, we will specifically talk about how the ICC test ranking is calculated and the top 10 teams with the highest rating in a test match.
To know how the ICC test ranking is calculated, it is better to understand some crucial factors which are considered for calculating the ranking of a concerned team.
Series Points: These are the notable points given to the team on the basis of series outcomes and are valid for one series only. Series points are used to calculate the rating points.
Rating Points: These are the total points earned by a team during the ranking period.
Rating. Average rating points earned per match. It is determined by dividing the total rating points by the number of matches played.
Ranking: It is the position of the team on the ranking table. The ranking of a team is determined by a three-step process which we discussed below:-
Series Point: If a team wins a match, then one point will be awarded, half point to both teams if the match is drawn, and zero points in case of losing the match. Moreover, one bonus point will be awarded if a team wins the series.
Rating Points are calculated based on the gap in rating If the rating gap is equal to or less than 40, then the rating point is calculated by the given formula. [(The teams own series points) x (The opponents rating + 50)] + [(The opponents series points) x (The opponents rating 50)].
If the rating gap is more than 40, then the rating point is calculated by the given formulaTeam with a higher rating [(The teams own series points) x (The teams own rating + 10)] + [(The opponents series points) x (The teams own rating 90)]Team with a lower rating [(The teams own series points) x (The teams own rating + 90)] + [(The opponents series points) x (The teams own rating’ 10)] Based on the rating points calculated, current rating points are added to the predetermined rating. Finally, the ranking is calculated based on rating points.
