Cameroon and Serbia drew 3-3 on Monday at the Al Janoub Stadium to keep themselves alive in the FIFA World Cup 2022. The African country was down 1-3 when Vincent Aboubakar came on as a substitute in the 55th minute and had an immediate effect. He chipped over the Serbia goalkeeper to score Cameroon's second goal. He set up a beautiful assist for teammate Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who rammed it inside from close range minutes later.
Aleksandar Mitrovic scored earlier in the second half to give Serbia a 3-1 advantage. Serbia came from behind in the first half when Jean-Charles Castelletto broke the deadlock after thirty minutes. However, spectacular late-game goals by Strahinja Pavlovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gave Serbia a 2-1 lead at the halftime break.
Serbia's best scorer, Mitrovic, came close to scoring three times in the first half. He was denied once by a post, and the second time he missed the target by inches. He nearly scored again in stoppage time, but the Cameroon goalkeeper blocked his attempt. Mitrovic had another chance late in the game, but with Cameroon bodies all around him, the forward missed the target from inside the box once more.
