England vs New Zealand 2nd T20I: England Outshine New Zealand to Bag a Convincing 95 Runs Win

On the ground of Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, England and New Zealand came for face off for the 2nd T20I. England won the toss and opted to bat first. The pitch was decent for batting and a close competition was expected between these top tier T20I sides. The hosts got off to a good start thanks to Jacks and Bairstow, but Jacks left after appearing briefly, much as in the previous game. Bairstow, who was dismissed for a score of just ten in the first T20I, took his time today and shown exceptional patience throughout the powerplay.

He initially pushed the ball around while being moderately aggressive. Malan, who scored fifty in the previous game, was bowled over for a duck by Santner, leaving him with little room to manoeuvre. But the innings' standout feature turned out to be the combination between Bairstow and Brook. Bairstow changed gears after getting set, and Brook attacked the bowlers immediately away. The pair shared a superb third-wicket stand of 106 runs, which helped England gain the upper hand in the middle overs.

In the process, they both reached their respective fifties. Bairstow had a chance to reach his century but was unable to get much of a strike in the final overs. England could have easily ended with 200+ runs had they not lost a few wickets near the end. England posted 198-4 in 20 overs and Kiwis had to show up their batting skills in the run chase.

However, chasing down the target on the scoreboard, Kiwis couldn't replicate England's batting in any part of the game. Also unsuccessful was the pursuit in New Zealand. They appeared to have tied their shoes incorrectly because they fell flat on their faces right away. Although they made some progress after losing Allen and Conway in the first two overs, they were already on a precarious incline and couldn't hold on for much longer. Although Tim Siefert made some amazing shots, they were unable to form any kind of partnerships since the wickets kept falling. The strain of the scoreboard was evident since many Kiwi hitters were victimised by incorrect strokes. Gus Atkinson made a very strong first impression, recording 4-20 from just 2.5 overs. New Zealand were restricted at 103 in just 13.5 overs and they lost the match to England by 95 runs.
