Cricket is one of the popular sports worldwide, and fans demanded to be in the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has officially decided to include cricket in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. After 128 years, cricket will be part of the Olympics, as it was part of the 1900 Olympics in Paris. Only two teams participated in this tournament - Great Britain and France.
Moreover, flag football, lacrosse, baseball/softball, and squash have also been included in the Olympic Games. Nita Ambani, a member of the IOC, confirmed this news. She states, “As an IOC member, a proud Indian, and an ardent cricket fan, I am delighted that IOC members have voted to include Cricket as an Olympic Sport in the LA Summer Olympics 2028!”
The IOC session was held in India after 40 years in Mumbai city. The inclusion of cricket is heartily welcomed in India, as cricket is considered a religion in India. From fans to Bollywood superstars, everyone applauded this decision.
The Olympian and Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, said that this decision will benefit cricket by providing worldwide appeal. However cricket has been played in multiple countries, but LA28 will provide the opportunity to spread this game in various countries. This inclusion will encourage multiple countries to pick up cricket.
The Indian hockey star PR Sreejesh said this decision will give cricketers entry to a sports person's life, as they live in posh hotels and travel only to elite places. But, when they enter the Olympic Village, they will see other sports people, Olympians, medallists, and elite international athletes. This will give them a different experience.
The former Indian speedster Jhulan Goswami stated that everyone used to prepare for the World Cup as a cricket player, but the Olympics are also there.
