Complete Guide to IPL 2025 Auction: Player List and Team Changes
On November 24 and 25, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The IPL 2025 auction, which took place over two days at the Abady Al-Johar Arena, gave the ten IPL clubs a chance to assemble the core of their squads for the upcoming three seasons. As fans eagerly await the latest IPL news and updates, this auction has certainly become a major talking point.
Every three years, the IPL super auction gives clubs the opportunity to rotate their rosters and, if they so want, start again.
At the IPL 2025 auction, the 10 cricket clubs assembled to choose the top players from a pool of 577 players, 367 of whom were Indian and 210 of whom were foreign. As always, the IPL news and updates from the auction kept cricket fans on the edge of their seats, with teams making key decisions about their squads.
At the IPL 2025 super auction, a player's base price started at ₹30 lakh and went up to ₹2 crore.
Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history when the Lucknow Super Giants paid ₹27 crore for him at the IPL 2025 auction. Shreyas Iyer, who was purchased by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore, momentarily held the record. These significant moves were among the most talked-about in the IPL match news coverage.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 13-year-old budding talent from Bihar, was the youngest player ever selected in the IPL auction when the Rajasthan Royals paid ₹1.1 million for him.
Early in March, Sunrisers Hyderabad's lineup saw the return of all-rounder Wiaan Mulder in place of injured Englishman Brydon Carse.

A maximum of five capped players and two uncapped Indians were allowed to be retained by the ten IPL clubs from their previous lineups ahead to the IPL 2025 mega auction. The total cost of the retained players is then reduced by the entire auction budget.
Teams who didn't use all six of their pre-auction retention may be able to match the highest price on any of their former players and keep them by using the remaining retention spots as Right to Match (RTM) cards during the auction.
For example, a team that retained four players won two RTM cards at the auction. The cap continued to apply to both capped and uncapped players.
With the biggest sum of ₹110.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, Punjab Kings could use RTM cards on four capped players and retain only two uncapped players.
In contrast, the first-ever IPL winners, the Rajasthan Royals, and the reigning champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders, had used up all of their pre-auction retention and had no RTM cards left. Their budgets were ₹41 crore and ₹51 crore, respectively.
