Colombo Stars Eliminates Galle Gladiators by Securing 7-Wickets Victory
Lanka Premier League: Colombo Stars Eliminates Galle Gladiators by Securing 7-Wickets Victory It’s the eliminator round of the Lanka Premier League wherein Colombo Stars faced Gall Gladiators with a motive to outclass each other and get a ticket to the final. The rain was predicted and it actually hindered the play initially. Consequently, the match was reduced to 18 overs for each side. Colombo Stars won the toss and opted to bowl first, inviting GGD to bat first. For GGD, Shafiq and Mendis opened the batting while Rajitha opened the attack for CLS. Due to the wet outfield, batters were finding hard to read the deliveries and as a result, only 6 runs come off 2 overs. This built additional pressure on the openers and Shafiq got out while pulling the bowl and got a top-edge. Soon, in the powerplay, Mendis was gone at 4 (14). What a sloppy inning from him! CLS’s bowlers kept their line and length in control and didn’t give much room to batters to score big and due to which they kept getting wickets. After 10 overs, the score was 42-4. Sahan Arachchige showed some intent and scored 53 (31) but others batters disappointed today! For Galle, only 108 runs from 18 overs. Up until he arrived, Sahan Arachchige was the only one with intent and flawless execution. Of all the runs GGD put on the scoreboard, he scored half of them. The other approached slowly. Colombo would be thrilled with their on-field performance. It wasn’t difficult to chase down 109, for sure. It wasn’t simple to hold the ball because of the moist conditions. However, Colombo were really proud of their efforts on the pitch and with the ball. In the run chase, Madushka and Chandimal came on crease to open batting while Pradeep was handed over the ball to bowl the opening over. CLS struggled initially in reading the ball as it was not coming much on bat. After 2 overs, the score was 3 runs only. However, Chandimal tried to pace up the inning and hit a six and four to Pradeep in the 3rd over but in the same over, he got caught at 13 (8). After 5 overs, the score was 29-1 and Madushka and Asalanka were on the crease. Unfortunately, Asalanka had to depart after he got run out in the 8th over. Soon, Imad dismissed Madushka in the 9th over. After 10 overs, the score was 53-3. Bopara and Mathews tried to bring CLS back into the game and kept stealing singles and boundaries to keep the scoreboard running. Colombo has been led home by Mathews and Bopara! These two joined together to secure Colombo’s 7-wickets victory just as they were going to experience a rough patch. The veterans persevered, watched for poor balls, and dispatched them to reduce this total to 17 overs. The run rate was handled by Bopara's 28 balls for 43 runs, and the jitters were handled by Mathews' presence at the other end. Colombo Stars won the game by 7 wickets!
