Caribbean Premier League 2023, 29th Match: Tallawahs Ride on Hales’ Century and Chris Green’s Four-Wicket Haul

Jamaica Tallawahs vs Saint Lucia Kings came against each other in the 29th match of the CPL at Providence Stadium, Guyana. Saint Lucia Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Kirk McKenzie and Hales came to bat and Forde opened the bowling attack. Hales smashed the first boundary of the match on the first ball of the third ball and hit one more four on the next ball. He smashed four boundaries in the next over on the second, third, fourth, and last ball. In the 5th over, Hales hit back-to-back two fours on the fourth and fifth ball. Kirk McKenzie was struggling to score runs and got out after scoring 3(12) in the last over of powerplay. After 6 overs, JT was at 46-1.

In the 7th over, Hales hit a four on the fourth ball and JT reached 50 runs. In the 10th over, Steven Taylor got out after scoring 14(18) on the third ball. In the 11th over, Shamarh Brooks started the over with a six and hit a four on the fifth ball. In the 12th over, Shamarh Brooks got out after scoring 13(8) on the first ball and Hales finished the over with a six. In the 14th over, JT reached 100 runs on the third ball and Hales finished the over with back-to-back three sixes. After 15 overs, JT was at 129-3.

In the 16th over, Imad Wasim started the over with a four, Hales hit a six on the third ball, and finished the over with back-to-back two fours. He scored a century on these two boundaries. In the 18th over, Imad Wasim smashed three boundaries on the third, fourth, and fifth ball. In the 19th over, Hales took a single on the second ball and the partnership between Imad Wasim and Alex Hales reached 100 runs. In the 20th over, Imad Wasim hit two boundaries and got out after scoring 41(24) on the fourth ball and Fabian Allen ran out after scoring 1(1) on the last ball. 

In 20 overs, Jamaica Tallawahs scored 201 runs with a loss of 5 wickets.

Chasing 202 runs, Primus and Leonardo Julien came to bat and Amir opened the bowling attack. The Kings didn’t have a great start against the mammoth target. Both the openers returned to the pavilion in the third ball. Primus got out on the first ball and Leonardo Julien got out on the last ball. In the 4th over, Rajapaksa hit back-to-back two boundaries. In the 5th over, Rajapaksa finished the over with back-to-back two fours. After the initial blow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Roston Chase made a small partnership. When SLK were looking settled, they lost two wickets in the last over of the powerplay. Bhanuka Rajapaksa got out on the second ball after scoring 22(14) and Williams got out for a duck on the third ball. After 6 overs, SLK was at 45-4.

In the 8th over, Raza got out after scoring 3(8) on the second ball and SLK reached 50 runs on the third ball. In the 9th over, Roston Chase got out after scoring 5(8) on the first ball. In the 10th over, Munro got out after scoring 4(9) on the fourth ball. In the 15th over, Forde got out after scoring 13(14) on the first ball, McKenny Clarke got out for a duck on the third ball, and Alzarri Joseph ran out after scoring 10(15) on the last ball. SLK got all out at 79 runs and lost the match by 122 runs.
