Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the opening Twenty20 International match against New Zealand. Despite losing opener Rony Talukdar early on, Najmul Hosain Shanto's batting order enjoyed a strong start. After the first defeat, Litton Das added 42 runs, which opened the door for Bangladesh's successful chase. With the help of the remaining players in the squad, Bangladesh won by five wickets in 18.4 overs. Mahedi Hasan deservedly won Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance and his 19 runs at bat. Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee both bowled admirably, capturing one wicket for sixteen runs apiece. Both teams are prepared for a fierce battle in the next games as the series progresses.
