The second One Day International (ODI) in the three-match series between New Zealand and Bangladesh will take place at Saxton Oval in Nelson on Wednesday, December 20th. The BlackCaps are hoping to win two straight to finish the series after winning the first ODI somewhat handily.
Given that they defeated Bangladesh in nearly every area in the opening One-Day International, the Tom Latham-led team should be extremely pleased with their start to the series. In a game that was shortened by rain, Will Young who reached his third ODI century and captain Latham did the most of the damage at the bat, amassing an impressive total.
With some outstanding bowling afterward, the bowlers prevented Bangladesh from taking the lead in the chase. All things considered, a well-balanced Kiwi team that is in control of their form will be hoping to close up the series quickly and make it two wins in a row before the series finale in Napier later this week.
Conversely, Bangladesh persisted in their misery as they were unable to seize the chances they generated to win the opening game. Despite the tigers' push, the hosts were unquestionably the superior squad. Shoriful Islam got off to a fantastic start with the new ball, but the rest of the assault was unable to build on it as they gave up far more at the end than they should have.
Bangladesh has been trailing behind in this format away from home in the recent past due primarily to a number of batsmen who have failed to convert their starts. Towhid Hridoy and Afif Hossain, two young players, have given it their all, but they still need to turn it into something spectacular to defeat New Zealand at home and level the series, extending the match to Saturday in Napier.
At Saxton Oval, this will be the first one-day international event since 2014. But November of last year was the last time a 50-over game was played. Generally, the pitch is balanced, with some assistance for the seamers in the front. As the game goes on, it becomes more difficult to play shots for the new batters, but if the batters settle in, they can play for extended periods of time. Given the unpredictable nature of the pitch, the team winning the toss is anticipated to bowl first.
