India’s Asia Cup 2018 Performance

Right-handed Pakistani all-around batsman Shahid Afridi again achieved a half-century in 18 balls during a match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on March 4, 2014, in Mirpur. He hit two fours and seven sixes for 59 runs in that game.

Afridi's insane batting style, which has always been a vision, is reflected in his one-day international strike rate of 117.00. He is among the batsmen with the most sixes in ODI cricket, which is a startling fact.

In the first season of the Asia Cup in 1984, India won its first title against Sri Lanka. Following it, India clinched the Asia Cup title in 1988, 1990-91, 1995, 2010, and 2016. Moreover, India reprised another dominating all-around performance. Here is how India performed in the last Asia Cup season:

1. Spirited Opening Stand

It wasn’t easy for India to stand tough to achieve a target of 174 but the duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma fizzed out of the run chase with a 61-run stand.

During the chase, Dhawan missed the sweep off Shakib Al Hasan where Rohit took over the charge and pulled the left-arm spinner to hitting a six. After Ambati Rayudu’s walk-off with 68 runs, Mahendra Singh Dhoni showcased big-hitting prowess that left his fans stunned. Along with this, Sharma finished his score proceedings by sparing more than 13 overs.

With Jadeja’s return after 15 months to the ODI format, the victory for team India was smooth and natural. In that season, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and

Jasprit Bumrah depicted their extreme brilliance as ever. The cumulative efforts of the team drew out enough runs against the Bangladesh batters, restricting the total to 173.

Playing back-to-back gameplays and abrupt changes in the Super 4 schedule may have brought fatigue to the Bangladesh team. Irrespective of it, the Bangladesh squad gave a tough competition to the Indian team.

reprised another dominating all-around performance. Here is how India performed in the last Asia Cup season:

2. Start of the Collapse

With the match set off, Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto started their game on a serious note. Proceeding the game, Kedar Jadhav lunged forward to take on the top edge from Liton in the fifth over, it set the tone for the match. Following that, the next over witnessed Shanto chasing Bumrah’s delivery that was pitched off while Dhawan caught his slash on the second attempt itself. Knocked out at 16 for two, the Bangladesh team turned towards Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim to rebuild the fresh innings.

However, Jadeja’s powerful gameplay led Shakib to perish his game due to his concentration falling off. After Shakib swept off the ball, it brought in a change in the field that went on spooning the next ball to Dhawan at square leg.

Yuzvendra Chahal took the wicket on the reverse sweep of Mushfiqur, and soon after Jadeja took the hold of Mohammed Mithun’s game.

3. Revival Nipped

Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain put in their efforts to get some semblance to the scoreboard at 65 for five but their pair dissociated with Mahmudullah being bowled out. Captain Mashrafe Mortaza and off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 66 in the team for the 8th wicket.

After Dhoni was batted out by Mosadek, Jadeja struck for the fourth time, showing the real cricket rivalry.

Bangladeshi squad stood tough against the India team but the tournament ended favouring India.

Cricket is one of the most popular sports across the globe that has billions of fans. Its huge popularity and the success of the formats are enough to make it the most loved sport.
