According to the 

latest cricketing news, the former Pakistani ICC elite umpire, Asad Rauf took his last breath in Lahore due to cardiac arrest. Reportedly, the eminent umpire officiated in 231 international matches between the duration of 2000-2013. 

Asad Rauf, who lived for 66 years started his umpiring journey in 2000 and progressed to ICC’s elite panel in 2006 in the next 7 years, he earned the prominence of being the best umpire in the cricket world. 

Likewise, Aleem Dar Rauf also emerged in the umpiring career and got his own identity in the Pakistani umpiring panel that boosted his reputation.

 in 1988, Rauf debuted to start his umpiring career in a First-Class game before appearing in his maiden ODI after two years. Thereafter, Asad Rauf was promoted to the ODI panel in 2004 and headed up his first test in the following year, 2005. 

Since then, he was consistent in his career officiating the matches at the supreme level till 2013. Following this, his career came to a halt due to the reason that his name was found involved in a spot-fixing scandal in IPL 2013. 

At that time, Asad Rauf was among the ‘wanted accused’ by the Mumbai police. It was a turning point for Rauf and that particular incident ruined his umpiring career. 

After 3 years in 2016, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prohibited Rauf from umpiring the matches as he was found guilty of his string attached to corrupt practices in the cricket matches. 

In the 2013 spot-fixing scandal, he was found guilty of receiving bribes from the bookies. One year before this scandal, Rauf was also indulged in illegally accused of sexual exploitation of a fashion model from Mumbai. She claimed that Rauf assured her of marrying her but backed out of his words later. 

Before Rauf was employed in umpiring, he was a great cricketer in domestic cricket matches in Pakistan. As a cricketer, he enjoyed a pretty decent career on the field. 

He was a right-handed batter and In the 1980s, he gave a pretty good score. From 71 First-class games, Rauf scraped 61 runs in 40 List-A matches. In the 1986-87 season, he racked up 673 runs, playing at an average of 35.36 that included 5 fifties and a century. Unfortunately, his cricketing form witnesses a downfall and he ventures into his umpiring journey. 

In a recent interview with a Pakistani news channel, Paktv.tv he stated 

‘This isn't for me, this is the daily wages of my staff, I work for them. I've umpired in so many games all my life, there's no one left to see now. I haven't been in touch with the game since 2013, because once I leave something I leave it completely

. ‘It is my habit to reach the peak of whatever work I do. I started work as a shopkeeper, and I have reached my peak. I played cricket; I reached the peak. And then when I started out as an umpire, I said to myself that I need to reach the peak here as well. I have no greed. I have seen a lot of money, and I have seen the world, with the protocol. One of my sons is a special child. The other one has just come back from America (US) after completing his graduation.’ 

Earlier this year, the eyes of the media lit upon him when a video of him went viral, selling shoes at the famous Landa Bazaar in Pakistan. In his statement, he also mentioned that after 10 years of his cricket career in his final ODI, he is no more interested in playing cricket but wants to excel in his new role.
