In the first T20I of Afghanistan vs UAE series of 2023 was played at Sharjah, UAE won the toss and opted to bowl first. On batting first, Afghanistan posted a daunting total of 203 in 20 overs. Following Zazai's loss during the powerplay, Gurbaz and captain Zadran took over. Zadran provided backup at the other end as Gurbaz assaulted the bowlers early on and continued to hit boundaries. In the 17th over, Gurbaz reached his century without sparing any of the bowlers from the United Arab Emirates. Gurbaz was dismissed because of a magnificent effort by Basil Hameed at deep mid-wicket, but he had accomplished more for the Afghans than just his job. After the opener was dismissed, Zadran also reached fifty, and Omarzai's cameo completed the picture. UAE lost a lot of runs as a result of their mediocre fielding.
In response to this mammoth total, UAE didn't show any intent. Following Muhammad Waseem's early exit and the seamers' constant movement of the ball, Aravind determined it was time for some drills. Not a desire or intention to pursue the target. It was almost entirely about getting to bat the allocated number of overs from the eighth over till the very finish. Tanish Suri demonstrated glimpses of his talent with a 20 on his debut, while Aravind finished with an undefeated 70. Afghanistan also took their time, committing careless errors and unsupported throws in the field. However, the outcome was always certain. Afghanistan takes the lead 1-0.
