Aaron Finch Says Goodbye to One day International

Cricket Australia on Saturday announced the retirement of Aaron Finch from the one-day format of cricket after the ongoing match between Australia with New Zealand. Finch has played 145 ODI matches with 54 as captain, and he will continue to be captain of the T20 format of the game.

Finch brought the World Cup in 2015 and made a debut in 2013. During his tenure as a one-day international player, he scored 5041 runs - which includes 17 centuries and 30 fifties - and his batting average was 39.13. In the recent past, the player's performance has not been like his career index.

"It has been a fantastic ride with some incredible memories. I have been extremely fortunate to be a part of some brilliant one-day sides. Equally, I have been blessed by all those I have played with and the many people behind the scenes. It is time to give a new leader the best opportunity to prepare for and win the next World Cup. I thank those who have helped and supported my journey to this point." Said Finch regarding the matter.

The CEO of Cricket Australia, Nick Hockley, commented, "On behalf of Australian Cricket, I would like to congratulate Aaron on his vast contribution as the captain of the Australian Men's ODI team and as a wonderful exponent of the 50-over format. Aaron is an enormously gifted and determined player whose outstanding deeds with the bat have been matched by his strong and inspiring leadership. His decision to step aside from the ODI captaincy is typical of his selfless approach to the game. I'm delighted Aaron will lead the Australian team into the forthcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where his leadership, experience, and tactical nous will be integral to the defense of our T20 World Cup title on home soil."

The opener has done some marvelous cricketing in the past; the cricket enthusiasts and fans will not appreciate his retirement. The decision to retire seems far-fetched as the player has performed miraculously in the past if we ignore the performance in the recent games.

Despite the bad news of his retirement from ODI, the news about his captaincy in T20s is a relief. The opener has performed with agility in this format of cricket too, and it is very likely to see the same type of performance and enthusiasm in the game from his end in the future.
